Boring? I'm stupefied. My friend and I cried through most of the movie--maybe because we both have "complicated" children. The ending was terrific, much better than the book's (dinner alone in his room?). His mom just gazed adoringly, silently, at Max, until she fell asleep. Perfect. Max was amazing. I was struck by the director's pacing: the camera often lingered on Max's face longer than I expected, and it was worth watching. Best movie I've seen in years.
