Drive
Posted by Mainstream Chick on September 15, 2011
What happens when a Hollywood action flick collides with an artsy indie? You get Drive, a movie that will either crash and burn at the box office or earn a cult following, particularly among fans of Pulp Fiction or maybe The Sopranos.
Contagion

If you’re a germaphobe, then run – don’t walk- to the nearest exit. And wash your hands. Twice.
Cowboys & Aliens
Posted by Mainstream Chick on July 28, 2011
If you like westerns and you like sci-fi then trust me, you’ll like Cowboys & Aliens. It really is that simple. This movie is a strange hybrid that somehow works, mostly due to its stars (Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford) and its director, Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Elf) who knows how to make a crowd-pleaser. The best way to describe it is True Grit meets Independence Day. Chew on that for a while.
Source Code

Don’t be scared away by talk of quantum mechanics, complex mathematical equations, and computer source codes. You don’t have to understand any of that to enjoy this movie (trust me, I know). Source Code is a bit like Groundhog Day meets Speed meets Inception meets 24. It’s a sci-fi thriller that takes place primarily on a commuter train that is – literally- about to explode.
The Lincoln Lawyer

The Lincoln Lawyer didn’t blow me away. But it did hold my interest for two hours and featured the best performance from Matthew McConaughey in a long, long while (and yes – his shirt does come off, albeit briefly).
The Adjustment Bureau

Phew, it’s time to come down from the cinematic high horse that is AWARDS SEASON and relish in some movies that are pure escapist fun. The Adjustment Bureau is definitely one of them.
Unknown

If you’re a fan of Liam Neeson and you like movies like The Bourne Identity, then you really can’t go wrong with Unknown. It’s a classic psychological thriller that leaves you wondering what’s what for a solid, fast-moving two hours.
Sanctum
Posted by Mainstream Chick on February 3, 2011
Sanctum is like a beautifully shot National Geographic special that would almost have you craving adventure if it weren’t for all the bloody, bloated bodies smashing against cave walls and floating through narrow passageways. Instead, you’ll be sitting on the edge of your seat, craving oxygen.
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest
Posted by Arty Chick on December 16, 2010
With all the hoopla about the penultimate Harry Potter and the third installment of The Chronicles of Narnia, the end of the Steig Larson Millennium Trilogy may have slipped your notice. And that’s too bad since The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest may be the best of the trilogy. Whether you’ve seen the first two, this movie is an entertaining ride on its own.
