Is “The Hangover” a chick flick by standard definition? Certainly not. Did this chick laugh her ass off? Hell yes. Just because it’s a “guy” comedy about a bachelor party gone horribly, horribly wrong in Vegas doesn’t mean a chick can’t enjoy it.
To get all “femi-chick” for a moment, the two prominent female characters are horrible Hollywood clichés – the stripper with the heart of gold and the domineering shrew. But don’t let that dissuade you. This movie is funny. Just go and revel in the brilliant comedic performances from Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis and let’s not forget Bradley Cooper, who is easy on the eyes as well as talented.
Full of raunchy humor, the movie moves swiftly from ridiculous scene to ridiculous scene – keeping the theater I was in laughing out loud all the way through the closing credits. And, yes, you have to stay for the credits. It’s not until then that we finally find out what really happened in Vegas – and, this chick for one, is glad it didn’t stay in Vegas but ended up on the screen instead.
I found The Hangover to be somewhat entertaining, but definitely a guy movie – or a compromise date movie. Bradley Cooper was a favorite of mine in the TV show Alias (as Syd’s best pal, Will) and he really shines in this movie. Total leading man potential.
