MOAOMy One and Only is one of those feel-good movies that should leave most theater-goers generally satisfied. It’s not overly funny or sad or violent or sappy. It’s just a good ol’ fashioned “nice movie.” And every once in a while, it’s really nice to see one of those.

I’m not a huge fan of Renée Zellwegger, but she holds her own in this indie flick. She plays Ann Devereaux, a narcissistic but ultimately well-meaning mother who leaves her cheatin’ husband (Kevin Bacon in a small, but pivotal role as a bandleader) and hits the road with her two teenage sons, George and Robbie, in search of a new husband. The trio head off on their cross-country adventure in a baby blue 1953 Cadillac Eldorado convertible that would make Thelma and Louise very proud.

My One and Only is (very) loosely based on the adolescent adventures of perennially tanned actor (turned Dancing with the Stars contestant) George Hamilton. Young George is played extremely well by Logan Lerman, who I predict has a very bright future if he can keep his head on straight in Hollywood. This movie is a chick flick, but a lot of guys should like it too. At its core, My One and Only is about the pursuit of happiness and the triumph of family, in all its flawed glory. Who can’t relate to that?
